What's all this talk of a double-dip recession? While recession is measured by GDP, it's published quarterly in arrears, so a much more timely measure is the BLS unemployment data at www.bls.gov. If you take a look at that, the u3 rate shot up for the recession, but is coming down now - there's no sign of a double dip!

BTW, if you compare the u3 historical to the major indices, you can spot the recessions, where the u3 shot up, and the market fell to half.
 
add to that the definition of a recession is completely arbitrary (so is the definition for a depression lol) and you have yourself a double dip shot of arbitrariness

personally i prefer chocolate dip recessions

be interesting if a double dip recession does occur though
