What are the best technology index (computer and software) for the US and UK?

Depends what you want them for.

But there's FTSE techMARK (100 and all share), S&P North American Technology, Dow Jones US Technology, etc.

Erm, do you understand what an index is? Technology indices all do that, and you really missed the point of Howard's question. Financial indices do the same, but with financial stocks, for example.

Have a look at the ones I've mentioned, that should give you a reasonable start.

But some indexes are comprised of fewer companies than others, some are focused on green technology some are focused on up-and-coming technology etc etc. These all seemed a little too specific for me.
 
Not definitely to trade futures, but more to compare specific tech companies against a suitable tech index rather than the usual indexes.

In that case the ones I've mentioned should be OK.
