Is it because you are greedy and want more money?

Is it for the challenge of beating the market?

Is it because you have nothing better to do every day?

Thinking about why I bother trading.. I just feel like a bit of a greedy person reading about all this financial news and studying charts.. which I don't care about.. trying to make a quick pound

I trade and invest to make money. It is as simple as that. There is nothing more to it. In the process I have fallen in love with making money.

If we stop the bull s h i t and focus on why we are in this business or for that matter any business then things become a lot clearer.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Who else is going to look after your financial well being...The Government!? Governments and bankers are robbing us blind, look at what is happening around the world, retirement ages are being raised, taxes are being raised and our standard of living is being decimated to save the "too big to fail". The majority are too lazy to do anything else but whinge. You aren't greedy, you are just trying to survive in this Orwellian world.

The government is inflating away all the debt allowed to accrue over time. The European Union wants to take this to a new level. There is no appetite for responsible behaviour from the electorate. Unions will react in the only way they know how. No one will look after you but yourself.

Your only protection (unless you are already stonking rich) is to successfully trade the market - and even then you need to be careful. Society in general still has not learned that you cannot buck harsh economic reality by fiddling the books for ever. And so it will go on ........

1. I want more money. I am not greedy.
2. You can not beat the market, if that is your aim, give up now.
3. I have plenty of better things to do, money is a requirement to be able to do them.

Money and challenge.

I think you need to re-adjust your thinking on money. It is obvious your attitude to money is negative and you associate money with evil. "Money is the root of all evil" you probably ignorantly quote from the Bible (do your research). There is nothing wrong with money nor having lots of it. If you think there is, you will subconsciously sabotage your trades/account and never succeed or find it extremely difficult to do so.

The poll is a bit daft.
People trade for the money (and often don't get it).
Greed is way too judgemental, why would anyone who wants money think they are greedy?
Earning a crust for food clothes, shelter, buy nice things / experiences get some security
in life.
Its not the same as overdoing it on the pies, pizzas n deserts is it?

The poll choices are a bit limited aren't they? What about the option "It's better than getting a proper job" [pre-supposing you are a half-decent trader]

That would have been my option - I would rather make my money from trading than do my current job or really any other job out there. Whether or not I'll be successful in that I probably won't know for a few more years!

Real big money cannot be made in short term trading. Never ever.

Big money is made buying good growth companies (CANSLIM type) and lots of shares. You are talking about thousands if not a million plus and then waiting for the upward trend to finish which can take many months to many years.

Over time with stock splits and company's continuous good performance you would be rewarded.. That IS the only way to make big money. Its the sitting and the waiting that makes big money.
