Trading Euro Stoxx 50 contract

In an attempt to try and skew my day away from US (ES, NQ, YM) hours and fuelled by a conversation with DonaldDuke about the Dax some time ago, I have turned my attention to this contract.

So trading hours look like they are 6:50am to 9:00pm GMT/BST.

However I can't believe that it's good trading all this time and suspect it's only worth trading whilst European equity markets are open (i.e. 7am to 4.30pm) - is this correct?

Is there anything else that might be useful in terms of its correlation to other European indices or markets?
 
Bump - anybody prepared to answer at least the volume/equity market question if I link some semi-naked ladies in here?

Now the stoxx 50 contract opens at 7 UK time on eurex, but at that time the cash equity markets are closed. You see a big spike in volume at 8am when the cash equity markets open, and you could argue that for that reason the "proper" market opens then too.

as for the end of the day, 4:30 is when the cash equity markets close and liquidity dies out after 5pm

something I think about trading futures on equities is that you should always keep an eye on the cash index itself for things like new highs etc but thats just me.

here is an (old) list of all the tickers and exchanges (TICKER-EXCHANGE) in the index. Some are like 2.5 - 3% of the weighting.

If it is a blog where I continue to pick images of attractive women when I feel like it, then this is low maintenance.

However if this is a blog where I record trades specifically on stoxx, then this just feels a bit too much like hard work and frankly, I'm quite a lazy bugger.
 
Sorry to revive a pretty dead thread but I had a couple questions on the FESX.

I see that amongst retail day traders the DAX is a lot more popular these days. Is this just due to the volatility and size of moves throughout the day?

I'm going to move my focus toward the ES and GE and would like to add a European index in there for the earlier hours of the day. Thinking the FESX would ve a good addition. Can anyone give some useful info/pointers on this product?
