I'm a beginner and wanted to start with a 5k account and I was interested in getting info. on which stocks are good for day trading with a 5k account plus 5k margin = 10k

I'm trying to stay away from penny stocks and was looking for a stock that has high volume, high daily price action and not too expensive..

I am trying to learn things now, by using a virtual trading platform and some a little shared knowledge from more experienced and successful traders would be welcomed.

You can't day trade stocks with that little amount of funds. You have to have a $25k minimum in order according to the SEC rule of pattern day trader. "Pattern day trader is a term defined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to describe a stock market trader who executes 4 (or more) day trades in 5 business days in a margin account, provided the number of day trades are more than six percent of the customer's total trading activity for that same five-day period. "

What you can do though is trade futures. There is no requirement besides opening an account with $5k-$5500 depending on who you go with. You can trade the S&P, nasdaq, dow, all currency futures, crude oil, corn, beans, etc, etc. If you open up a futures account do a demo for a month...or for that matter anything you trade you should do a demo account first. Futures are open 24 hours a day for the most part and you can get in and out when you want. Trading stock has a lot of dis-advantages.

If your trading cfd's I would recommend hochschild (HOC) and Bowleven (BLVN)

There share prices normally swing between 10-20p per day (depending on your trading strategy and leverage) if using cfd's you could make some good money!

Im pissed right now because i just started a new job (currently 9-5 n cant wait to get back on shifts so i can trade from the open when im working lates)

5k could easily get you 2500 shares on margin (depending on your trading strategy / risk management).
If you bought 2500 shares a 1p move would make you £25. Or if you brought 5000 shares you could make £50 for every 1p move.

Obvously theres a lot more trades on both charts but i only picked out trades i would take based on my trading strategy, i was at work on tuesday n everytime i checked my phone (every hr or so when i cud sneak to the toilet) i was so frustrated because i could see all these wonderful trades developing but didnt want to place any buy or sell orders because i wouldnt be able to monitor them!

I curerntly use igm, they have great charting software and you can also filter stocks for cetain patterns (triangles, wedges etc)

As i said before this all depends on your trading strategy, risk management!

Hopefully this has provided some insight.
