Of course it's true! It may be over calculated but he would not be a good Egyptian leader if he did not have several billions salted away.

Now you know why he is tired, fed-up but loves hs country, so is prepared to sacrifice his life to saving it from chaos.

Hmmm, so his son has a house on Wilton Place in Knightsbridge, according to the Grauniad. If you walk around Belgravia and Knightsbridge at night time, it's noticeable how few houses or flats have lights on, i.e. they're mainly empty.

I like your quote. If anyone is thinking of shooting me when I get to 6,000, please don't---I'm too close for comfort!

I bet Mubarak felt the same when he was approaching 10 billion dollars. :D

Maybe the protestors will give Mubarak a deal to return the money he stole off the people in return for a cosy retirement.

Where is all this dosh stored ? Switzerland I expect. The money launderers for the "scum of the earth"

Read Chomsky's piece in the Guardian on Friday for a decent snap shot, the US don't fear revolution, they fear liberation across the M.East. A re-set to zero for these economies and political systems would be devestating to US interests. En masse if these countries and economies turf out the US interests, and use their mineral wealth principally for their own development, the USA is fooked.

Today in Egypt, as the banks re-open, you can only take out approx. 8K per day, there's a re-set for the wealthy elite right there. If they didn't see this coming, and escape with their loot, the middle and upper classes are only 8K away from the poorest. The Mubareks transported the usual crate loads of sovereign gold out of the country by private charter 3 weeks back, they knew this was looming.

Big issue is whether the CIA and MI6 can get the Egyptian army onside with their usual bribes, if they can't buy the army and install a military junta (and don't be fooled that is the "orderly transition" the US and global elite want) then we live in interesting times.

The failure of the system in 2007-2008 has been made worse by the patheitc remedies causing the hyper inflationary spikes in basic food stuffs and commodities, that few trillions created by The Bernank, after it was fed into the fractional reserve goo gaa machine, has had the type of unforseen consequences we now witness. However, by using the various economic game play theories and models the US powers and elite cling to, they knew this would happen, which makes it even more ironic that they're now a 'friend' of Egypt..I hope ordinary Egyptians arent fooled, that country should not be *poor*..They have been ripped off systemactically for decades.

getting rich is the whole reason for becoming a politician
like the way the blairs now have 7 multimillion pound houses
mubarak just set his aim higher

Blair looks like a saint next to Mubarak. He's made his money AFTER leaving office, he didn't embezzle it whilst in power.

$70bio, I'm staggered, that's close to $1k for every person in the country.

true, embezzling in a democratic country would be too hard though, so you have to use it as a meal ticket instead for some "consulting" and peace envoy jobs and whatever afterwards.

the arab leaders are honest though, they just do not give one solitary **** about the people and don't care who knows it, unlike western leaders who have to put on an act at least. i bet half of them in parliament are kicking themselves that they wern't born in one of these arab/african countries.

where did this money come from anyway, how much was bribes from the USA to be nice to israel..........

The game has changed, Thatcher, Major, Blair.. all lined up their ducks for after office, however, the bunch of kleptocrats we have in power in the UK now have started earlier knowing they have no chance of re-election.

Clan Mubarak have multi-million pound houses in Berlin, New York, London, Paris etc. according to Bloomberg.

The Shah's son committed suicide while living on plundered wealth abroad. Perhaps Mubarak's lot will go the same way.

Best not to be a crook imho

There's a LOT of very dodgy money in Knightsbridge. It's a perfect place to park a large 8 figure sum of ill-gotten gains. Or you could buy a football club, but difference is one tends to appreciate in value whilst the other is a bottomless pit. Our Russian friend has net spent nearly half a billion pounds on Chelsea FC to date, and still no Champions League.

It surprises me that someone clever/tricky enough to net a billion plus is so silly squandering a big chunk of it on some overpaid ******

Buy a Greek island and populate it with nubile ladies.

I see the geneticists have worked out that 20% of the people stretching from the edge of Europe to the Pacific are direct descendents of 1 man - Ghengis Khan the randy old rotter.

I wouldn't mind his lifestyle.. squillions in the bank, yachts coming out of the ****, foxy young girlfriend etc.

According to John Henry, Abramovich knew that Liverpool wanted to net £15mio from selling Torres and buying Carroll..... so in the end it was Mike Ashley who determined how much Torres went for.

Let's hope he falls out of the helicopter on the way out.

In a country where the average income for the vast majority of the 80 million people is less than $20 dollars per week, how can a former Airforce officer (and honest politician) be worth $40-70 Billion?

Dunno.

Can I phone a friend ?

If he can convince the protestors he was saving up to start a Federal Reserve Piggy Bank of Egypt and a compulsive disorder to buy multi-million pound houses abroad he might just survive

:)
