slow pc

hello guys

There does not seem to be a forum for my question so i will put it here.Maybe i have to use an entirely diffrent forum altogether as this has more to do with computers than with trading.

I have a good scalping system for the 1m frame.It's entirely mecanical so i have a fairly good idea how well it works except...my pc is too slow to run it on the 1m frame.So my question is this? and this is for techies only if you not a techie please do not answer.

I have done everything humanly possible apart from buying a new pc too speed the junk up.I'd like to know however how much system resources does a tv tuner or card take.Should i uninstall it will it give my pc enough of a speed boost to run the 1m frame or will it not make any diffrence.

A TV tuner card shouldn't use up many resources at all. I wouldn't bother..

What software are you using for running the strat? And, if you bring up task manager while it's running, what's it using? Too much CPU, too much memory or both?

I doubt the TV tuner is the problem. A few suggestions:

1-Touch up the code, see if you can make it more efficient, especially if you've used boost or something, that is awful awful stuff.
2-You could use a VPS to run it on.
3-Check your PC against those on the market, if yours is terrible by comparison it may be worthwhile getting a new one.

1. What is your PC spec - CPU, RAM, Video Card and disk etc?
2. What is your Operating System?
3. What SW are you running your mech sys on?

Bottlenecks usually occur in 4 areas...

CPU
RAM
Disk
Bandwidth

Task Manager is a good start...

Most charting software is not heavy on modern graphics cards or cpu?

How old is your PC?

I just updated my system with AMD 1090T, 8GB 1333 ram, Biostar AM3 motherboard (with 4 PCIe x16 slots, up to 8 monitors), ATI 4550 (3 of them), windows 7, and a solid state hard drive.

This configuration resulted in a HUGE gain in performance over the old phenom I system. I would imagine your tuner card runs off a PCI slot, I don't see a low bandwidth PCI device lagging down an upgraded system like the one described. I've lagged several times before with the old system when my trigger was hit and missed the trade enough to more than pay for the upgrade to the PC. I'm a bit of a tech geek, so I'm really happy about the new hardware; but from a financial perspective, it's simply a good return on investment.

It is possible that the tuner card in conjunction with other drivers/hardware is enough to lag your system. You can try killing processes one by one and see what kind of performance gains you get. Both the addition of memory and the replacement of the traditional hard drive with a solid state drive produce appreciable performance gains. Back in college when I didn’t have any money to spend, I would speed my computer up once a year by formatting the hard drive and reloading the operating system (got rid of all the random junk).

Wow...I mean just wow...

I do both, discretionary and automated trading. I had problems similar to yours on the automated especially on the 2 mins.
i then moved to the 5 mins, and finally to kase bars, somehow that reduces the burden on the pc.
to be totally honest i have also changed my pc.

.Black swan i noticed you use highlights when qoating me.I'm not sure what you mean by that but the 1m scalping system i was talking about happens to be fx stealth that has a couple of systems.One of them is a 1m scalping system...This fx stealth scalping system makes mincemeat of the 1m frame.

But ofcourse i cannot trade the 1m frame so i trade the 15m frame instead but then there are a lot of things that change.I use a 50 sma,pivot point bais,i also find the interim trend and look to see if there is any negative divergence with the stealth hybrid.The 1m scalping system however is a lot simpler.If you can tell one colour apart from another you can trade it...that's why i can see how good it works in hindsight but i cannot actually trade it.All due respect you know nothing of the fx stealth system if you gonna be sarcastic can you please not respond at all.I'd prefer that.

You've wasted my time but don't worry I enjoy the ridicule...

not being sarcastic...i think i have my answer.I've already uninstalled my tv tuner and it did not work...or did it.It did not work on the eurusd but for the first time i thought to check out a diffrent pair.The gpbusd 1m frame has no problem at all!!while the eurusd cannot be traded at all using this system.

How does that work?I'm so excited now i can trade the way i want to.Yes i have to pay a higher spead but it's only 1 pip.I only assumed that if the eurusd 1m frame does not work then the gpbusd 1m frame will not work as well.That is a logical assumtion but still...

What riducule do you find entertaining if you don't mind me asking

Firstly retail traders trying to scalp of a 1 min TF..do you even know what true scalping is and why you sounded so ridiculous thinking you can do it? You can't, you never will as a retail punter, it's a ship of fools but set sail matey..plot the course..

Second issue, I don't follow you or your threads, dont think I've ever come across you before tbh, gotta say though, (having glanced at your profile for the first time), you've started 49 threads out of the 120+ posts you've made, that must be some sort of percentage record, not quite sure what it indicates tbh it's quite unusual..generally fits the profile of a wannabee vendor or 'link economy' salestard...

Lol not wanting to get into an argument here but this isn't strictly true BS... Proper scalping is pretty much impossible for retail punters but scalping by it's current definition of short term trades is entirely possible off the 1-min... Not saying I can do it like (I've tried) but it is definitely possible.

This is a good point

listen buddy you have no idea what you are talking about.You've never even seen fx stealth.You are offering insight to something you are completely ignorant off.You have never seen a system scalp the 1m frame yet.

I have been watching the fx stealth 1m scalping system a long time.Also i've been in constant contact with other traders who also trade fx stealth and one of them scalps the 1m frame everyday of his life...and he has not had a losing week yet.

If you take 5 and google it you will find great praises for the system in fact a vast majority of the people on forex peace army who tried the system gave it 5/5 stars.No offense but you really have no idea what you are talking about.I've attached a screen shot...there is a little bit of multiple timeframe confirmation and rules i'm not going to delve in but when both the buy/sell indicator and the lcd change colour together you get a nice low risk trade.This is just an example by the way the maximun potentail on this baby is about 50 pips.
