What financial qualifications does a dealing desk trader have to pass in the UK?
Edit: Spelling would be one :) - typo in the title heheh

Is a dealing desk just an extention of customer services / filling orders or is there a more technical/analyst side to it as well?

You would need to be FSA approved (CF30). Exams to get this are the CISI Securities (and Financial Derivatives, if dealing with these) and CISI Regulations. Your firm can then apply for FSA approval on your behalf.

Dealing desk traders execute client orders. Equity types may work DMA or via program trading. Futures types, typically, execute DMA. If they deal DMA, they normally request a level from a client or get it done on a best endevours basis. Having a relatively good technical feel for the market would be useful in such a role.

The only reason I looked in this thread was to find out what the hell " aulifications" meant.

God's honest truth.(y)
