Hello,
I am interested in positions which I usually keep opened for a 2 weeks - 1 mounth, maybe more time period.

How dou you invest in:
1) commodities
2) Forex

CFDs are great for intraday, but the overnight refinancing fees cost you a lot if you hold positions opened for more than a few days.
Also FX is the same with the rollover - the money you should earn on higher interest currency is much less than what you must pay because broker fees.

So how do you invest in commodities? CFDs? FUTURES?

Try Interactive Brokers ... one of the cheaper way to trade futures, so no overnight roll charge (and by that I am not referring to carry, which is a completely different thing).

The disadvantages you will find with futures is that a "lot" can be quite a large amount, i.e. you can't do small, exact amounts as you would with a spreadbetting company.

you can spreadbet commodities too, im not sure about the spread on commodities by SB firms but i think it's pretty big

Spread on commodities on SB is very wide, stick to a proper futures broker. Gold is 0.6 wide on IG, 0.1 wide on IB, to give you an idea.

How about CFDs ON futures as offered by GFT and others? Wider spread but no financing charges.

Regards

Hittfeld
