Hi, I am looking into weather derivatives and I am struggling to find out whats going on right now. It seem the market was doing really well 2000-2006 peaking at $43 bn worldwide. 2007 was apparently around $16bn, however struggling with data since then.

I would really appreciate it if you could help out with a few questions.

1.) Who really trades weather?
2.) How is is traded? electronic? OTC?
3.) How much is traded?
4.) How Liquid are the markets?
5.) What are the spreads like?

Thankyou in advance

Thanks GammaJammer, very funny, I like the carrots! That forums pretty good for background and history, but I am hoping to obtain a current market perspective on weather derivatives.

So the other thread is a slightly different line of enquiry dont you think? I feel it might be better to start from fresh here if you dont mind.

Thanks for the carrots though!

Apparently Tradition did a contract on Heathrow this month. They did 5000 lots at £100,000 per HDD. (Heating Degree Day)

lol

Im wondering who it was though? Also why they chose heathrow? reliable data? suburbian climate? or just airport linked?

Doesnt seem anyone know the answers to my questions which kinda sugeests the market isnt huge!
