Spread Trading

I am currently moving into Futures Trading and was looking for some advice on how 'Spread Trading' works. i.e. calendar spreads etc.

You go long one market or month and short another market or month so you are in a hedged position and make or lose money depending on how the relationship between the different markets or months change.

Thanks Bobl Boy. How would you trade it? I.e. how long you would hold. or how would you trade your expectations of a market move?

I am most interested in currency futures and wondered how profitabilty is attained.
