Options with Tight Bid/Ask Spreads

Hi All,

Has anyone here developed a list of stocks/etfs with an options market that has consistently tight bid/ask spreads and if so would you be willing to share it?

To define "tight" I am looking for no more than 5% (preferably less) between the bid/ask in ATM options.

Cheers!

Would have thought any exchange traded options would be that tight?

That would be nice but it is not the case. Few options have spreads that tight. For example, right now MasterCard (which has a moderately liquid options market) 13 Dec 805 calls bid:3.70 ask:4.85 - a spread of ~20%. And this is quite common.

It can make risk management very challenging.

Check this site out. you can run a filter for volume. This wont tell you if the bid/ask spread in the options market is <5% but there is a high correlation between very liquid stocks and their corresponding option chain. Should help you narrow it down.

Take a look at the "penny pilot" stocks (and etfs).
They are the underlyings where the options have a minimum tick size of 1 cent as opposed to 5 cents (or 10).

This is a good starting point, but you still need to do your due diligence, perhaps feed that list through another filter that ensures sufficient open interest and volume (ie, open interest > X and volume > Y).

This is a list of options with more than 50,000 open contracts. They are in order of open interest with SPY being the highest. Haven't gone through them all yet but should be a good list for swing trading.
