Hi

I mean retail obviously, like optionsexpress , odl etc.

Just spoken to a charles schwab broker who says $8.95 online fee + $0.75 per contract. So with 1 contract , if buying 1 call/put just below $20. Ok.

But then I asked him to check the 1200 Oct strike for SnP ( very close to expiry) and he said its $4, but as its us style option, to multiply that by 100 making it $400 + the above transaction costs.
So about $420 ? To buy 1 call / put ?
Really ?

Called ODL and they said nope its approx £33 both sides all in for buying 1 contract.

Could someone please clarify......
Thanks

I think you're looking at confusion between commission cost and option premium. The $420 is the premium of the option ($4 x 100 shares in the contract) plus the commission.
