Oh ok I get it haha 1 giga byte eh, 1980 vs 2009.

Gosh, now I'm feeling clever.

Crikey that is a long read Martin.

I remember in the 80's as school kids my brother and I got an Apple II for christmas.

Did you get this left brained / right brained thing ?

Before clicking figure out if she is turning clock or anti-clockwise.

THE Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

They say that the first born is more of a left brainer, the second born more of a right brainer.

Well, that certainly applied with my brother and me, he as first born was learning BASIC and figuring out how the thing worked, I wasn't particularly bothered about the ins and outs as long as it did what I told it to.

;)

I came in this thread thinking it was about inflation lol

I must admit I thought the same & was trying to fathom out how a washing machine motor fitted into the picture!

FYI, according to the Bank of England calculator, £1 of goods in 1980 will now cost you £3.21 - inflation of 4.2%.

Its gonna take Gordo (Dave?) some time to work off the present debt by inflation at that rate. So will they have to put inflation up? Or is that what they mean by "Quantative Easing"?

If inflation goes up (with low interest) I think they're effectively writing down old debt :-S I don't really know any economics though so I have absolutely no inkling as to what they're trying to achieve. From what I understand it's like using a hosepipe to fight off raindrops.

Sorry, it's long, but I think it's really good...

This damn woman, she turned one way first (clockwise), then I look at her again and she's turning the other way. What the heck!

Yup, thanks for posting that article, I definitely will get down to reading that properly eventually, should help me bluff my way round tech savvy people a bit better in future without outing myslef as utterly clueless in that regard as is currently the case, hehe.

The girl ? I only ever see her turning clockwise.

Funny eh.

;-)

I'm dying to know what that huge wheel is for

Very early computer disk storage had a problem with reliability of the motors to rotate the disks. In case of dire need this was a manual reversion system but you did need a fairly energetic and patient techie to rotate the wheel and thus the disk for long periods of time. ;)
