Awareness during sleep paralysis

Wow!
Frist time ive seen someone post about this on one of the trading forums I frequent.

Yes, I get this, and it is FREAKY!! I get it approximately once every month or so.
I haven't even bothered to look at the links yet but im assuming its the same as what I get.

Basically I fall asleep, and then at some point my senses seem to wake up without me. I can hear the TV if its on for example. Sometimes I attempt to 'throw' my arms around as I sleep in an attempt to wake myself up. The first time I experienced this I thought I was about to die!! :( lol

I now notice that I am more likely to get it if I sleep on my back.

I kind of experience the 'ghost feeling' you mentioned when it first happened to me, but that could also be bacuse I was so much more afraid than when it happens to me now??

Its so weird though. I tried to explain it to some of the guys at work and they all thought i was nuts!

Yeah it happenes while i am sleeping on my back , check the 2 links , it will help ...

And it gets more scary when it happens while surgical operations , although it is very rare , watch the movie "Awake " .

yep i get it regularly too, have had for decades. like everyone else I always assumed I was alone in my freakishness til i heard it being discussed on a very late radio show one night.
Since then, even just knowing about it and understanding it has certainly lessened the frequency and severity.

what's worrying is what the guy in the linked article says about monsters, demons, witches etc:

"for the most part they're hallucinations."

Does that mean occasionally they're NOT just hallucinations ? :)

Unreal, thanks for bringing this subject up.

Years ago I used to experience this quite frequently. I would have had a normal nights sleep...wake up...have a lie in ...go back to sleep...this is where the trouble started !
Complete body paralysis and it used to go on for what seemed an age...20 to 30 mins i'm guessing. Experiencing some form of mental awareness and knowing that I could not move a muscle...and not from want of trying I can tell you !
Finally I found a solution to this problem...it involved focussing the mind on One action....this action was to jolt myself out of it.

Much later I was speaking to a friend about this experience from years past...and she said it had to do with "travelling"....a form of mind travel...always looking outward in these adventures/ nightmares and not backward.....not looking backward is the important bit here, because if you are looking backward at yourself and surroundings...it probably means you are dead!

What ?! 30 minutes !!!!

they say it is between few seconds to few minutes but it seems longer

Yes...when in that state...it seemed to be for 20 / 30 mins....the reality is, I have no idea :)...It could indeed have been seconds....but a lot happened in those seconds if that is the case.

Watch "Awake " , u will not think to make any surgical operation if u need it someday !!

Guys im with you on this one. I used to get these years ago and speaking to male friends about this and 70% have had these dreams-awakeness.

Ive not had any for about 4 years but i linked mine to staying in new places eg: moving house, staying in hotels or somewhere new that i didnt know or feel secure.

Was always the same scenario. In bed lying next to my girlfriend and in would come a dark figure or someone dressed in black, no visible face and in their right hand would be a big long silver knife. In it i knew he was going to kill us and that he knew he was going to kill us. That feeling of trying anything to pull out of this sleep paralysis will not leave me to this day.

Been free of them for 4 years but still have to check doors and windows are locked in new places so that i dont get them.

Damn that f*cking bogeyman.

hi guys what an interesting subject, i have had this in the past quite often at one point. but now i get these dreams where im interacting in the dream and its a normal dream but i know im dreaming and that its not real, i know im actually laying in bed! this happens alot now, was bit freaky at first but now is quite funny (i will tell the people in the dream that this not actually real and that they are in my dream lol
to wake myself i have to close my eyes and strain so intently that feels like i might burst a blood vessel lol but works eveytime!
just thought i would add this

Sounds like lucid dreaming?
You're lucky to get these often. People spend months training themselves so that they know when they are dreaming.
I used to get these when I was younger - Be dreaming and become aware that I was dreaming, and then go around robbing banks and doing all sorts of crazy stuff, but once it started to get exciting, id always wake up :(
I later learnt a cool way to stay in you 'lucid' state but have only managed to get the chance to use it a few times because I hardly ever lucid dream any more...

yeah ive done some cool stuff when in that state :) but i always find myself wanting to wake up? which is annoying when i do.

Imagine the possibility of your lucid dreaming.... once there stood in your world and demanding the presence of a person you want to talk to......and then they appear in front of you.

Whom would you talk to? What would you ask?

If you could do this are you actually summoning the presence of the real persons subconscious? Whether they are awake or not.

Is this where Déjà Vu comes from?.....your subconscious was previously summoned to a scenario that someone has already played out in their dream.

Who knows?

Mark.

Id summon my missus.

Eggs, bacon, fried bread. black pudding, sausages and beans.

Wake up

Voila

I have another type of lucid dreams , i know i am dreaming so i make problems then i manage to wake myself up , i succeed always if i want to wake myself but i feel very sleepy , so i get asleep after seconds only
