Germany was not and is not anti-American;

Germany is, was and will continue to be anti toxic, counterproductive war mongering, blood drenched, democracy destroying policies based on nothing but lies and deceit as W. Bush and his NeoCons stood and stand for.

Thank God that's history, and we can start getting back to sanity, real life, and good relations again, which is absolutely what we need, there is too much happening in the world right now for the US to be isolated from the rest of us.

Obama definitely stands for a change in the right direction.

Yesterday was a real Love Fest in the Berlin "FanMeile", the street bang in the very centre of Berlin leading from the Brandenburg Gate to the Siegessäule, where hundreds of thousands congregated during the football World Cup 2006, or, more recently, during Euro 2008, which was basically just a seemingly never ending succession of gigantic open air partys.

Well, that euphoric atmosphere was totally back last night when Obama came to the same FanMeile and gave his Berlin speech in front of the Siegessäule, again hundreds of thousands had come to see him and cheer him on with amazing enthusiasm, as if they were back in a football match or in a concert with some SuperStar !

What an amazing spectacle.

I'm most definitely not susceptible to hero worship, nor do I agree with all of his positions, but if you want that in a candidate you need to run for office yourself anyway, but I do see how important the right person can be at the right time to bring about change, and I must admit that I like him and his very apparent sincerity, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the by far best candidate that could become the next US president.

I certainly hope he makes it !

The police say that an amazing 200 000 people showed up in Berlin to see and hear Obama, no German or other foreign politician in the last 40 years has ever achieved that !!!

What's more, sthg like close to 80 % of Germans would vote for him, either in the US if they could which of course they can't, but the same almost 80% would also vote for him in Germany as Chancellor if he were a candidate...

:)

This is quite fantastic. What is it that he's got that so appeals to the German people? Couldn't see it happening in UK though goodness knows we need a hero right now.

OO7, it's downright Obamamania at the moment :D

I followed his day in Berlin and his speech on TV, and I must admit that I would vote for him as well because not only is he good looking and charismatic (not that unimportant for a chap you'll be seeing on the news almost daily for the next 4 years if you're from his country), but beyond that he comes across as very credible and sincere, and he really seems to rest in himself, he really gives the impression that he is someone who has made his peace with himself and has the confiodence that comes from that, and who has really figured out what he wants from life.

Where say Hillary or most of all the other candidates of this race or even of the last decades would be classic and really not very appealing push marketing, he, by contrast, is pull marketing all the way.

Obama went to a fitness studio in the Ritz-Carlton in Berlin and by chance a reporter from the biggest tabloid was there at the time, an attractive Blonde, they trained side by side for an hour, after which she nicely asked fhim for a picture with him which he did, afterwards she was all over the news including TV gushing about him and what a fantastic man he was.

:)

Well I wish OB well. He seems decent and honest at the moment. I just hope, er, if he gets in, that driving forward with those values, won't be a problem for his health.

Agree though, he is sexy , youthful and seems full of spunk. Thumbs up from me. Maybe he will help America become less fearful of the rest of the world.

Damn, I can see this guy singing on a Christmas special show with David Bowie (# peace on earth,(hommies) let it be(SA), per ropper pom pom, ropper pom pom) & kids . Bloody hell what about a remake of ebony and ivory ? Can this guy sing? Course he can...

I think we need a direct support line to the whitehouse here on T2W . Keep him informed.

Thats it the OB1 Fan club is born.

or, indeed, the last time a popular american democrat came to Berlin and wowed the crowds with his charisma: (and mispronouncing himself a hamburger)

open-top car, Dallas...

EDIT: I am being cynical. Obama does appear to be fresh, and not associated with insiders and perceived (or real) corruption. He seems to have a clear vision of a future that doesnt rely on blowing things up.

Markus will correct me if I'm wrong, but i seem to recall that "a Berliner" is a type of donut ?

great statesman quotes of all time "i am a donut"

still, could be worse, he couldha said (in a Cliff Richard voice from max & paddy) "hi, my name's Tony...."

Markus, you know I don't mean anything by it. As a peace offering, let me offer you this tray of hors d'ouevres........ hors d'ouevres which must be obeyed !

wir wollen ein Auto mieten.

You're volunteering to go out and get the meat ? No need, chef already has got the meat ...

Exile, just caught this now ;-)

Yup, a Berliner is a donut, but it's also the way the other Berliners - the breathing types - refer to themselves.

JFK:

The edible sort:

The breathing Berliners include the 4 legged variety as well:

The latest Berliner with Star status, Knut the Ice-bear baby and his foster daddy:

So alls well, and all different forms that Berliners can take are harmoniously living side by side.

:D

;-)

Knut turned one some weeks ago, he spent his first birthday on a nostalgic journey to his wild youth:
