Talking to your screen

I have long adopted the successful strategy of talking to my pot plants, resulting in substantial growth, although thankfully not exponential.
I’ve run a few experiments recently to see if the principle might carry over to trading. Not had much luck so far, the charts tend to travel south when I’ve urged them to go north. Shouting seems to magnify the effect.
I just wondered if any one has attempted shouting the opposite advice at the screen to the intended result. I am reluctant to try this in case I confuse my screen, or antagonise it further, or in case it sees through my plan and attempts to double-bluff me, so would welcome any input from anyone with experience of this sort of thing.

Thanks, Peto

Peto,

I talk to my plants but they telling me to fcku off.

I would shout the opposite of your intention but turn your monitor upside down first. An admission of confusion from your pc would be an admission of weakness. And you win. Should this fail, sling it from the window saying, “Get out of this one”. (Might be an idea to have a spare.)

Most screens are made in the East, so you have to be sure you use the correct language. Shouting does not always work, often having the opposite effect. It is best to maintain a stern demeanour and in an authoritative manner clearly outline your expectations of the screen, thus avoiding confusion.

they guy I used to sit next to at Marex would tend to get rather excitable, shouting and screaming at his screen, most often swearing, sometimes pleading. In the heat of the moment on a bad fill, it wasnt that uncommon for the screen to receive a resounding punch...

I dont know if this proved to have a beneficial effect on his PnL, but if I was his screen, I would have been scared. I saw one or two get stretchered off the floor.

If you do elect to converse with your screen, I have a sense the ONLY manner of delivery acceptable will be similar to that of the HAL computer in 2001.

"I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that..."

Anyway Arb, I would have thought you uber-pros would be using totally voice activated technology by now...keyboards and mice passe, surely?

Since plants use CO2 and water vapour to grow, I thought that it was the increased levels of C02 and water vapour in its vicinity that caused the growth, not any words spoken! you are essentially breathing nutrients on the plants.

instead of shouting at the screen to do what you want, why not speak to it, ASKING what IT is doing? that creates a more receptive frame of mind, and then you are interpreting the moves on the screen, anf thus respond more in a reactive manner.
this way you are attempting to see what the screen is telling you, rather than trying to work out why it isnt doing what you want (imposing your opinion).

EDIT: you may need to use babelfish, and translate into binary.

I think my computer is more like ZEN from Blake's 7... Or perhaps Metal Mickey.

peto started this thread hmmmm thanks for all your advices. I will try everything.

Last resort is obviously to cut the power cable and rewire the +ve to the -ve wires, which should reverse all my dodgy trades. Health&SafetyDoGooders would say unplug it first but real men just get on with the job and bare the insulation with their teeth. Due care though, I'll be sure to put it back together with sellotape and blutak.

Westernforce,

“Shouting does not always work”. Tell that to Lord Canarvon, with his jodhpurs and pith helmet .

Trendie,

“why not speak to it, ASKING what IT is doing?” Are you a social worker?

Arbitageur,

Obviously a Real man.

Peto,

And stand in a bucket of water at the same time.

Grant.
