Learn a language

Whilst sitting here listening to music all the time whilst trading, I have decided to take advantage of my time and instead learn a language instead of just CD's on loop...

Problem is, which one...

It kinda makes sense to pick one spoken in more than one country but thats not necessarily the easiest, and if I couldn't learn them too well at school, I probably won't now either so it can't be too hard!

I've always like Italian and Japanese and although I spend a fair bit of time in Hong Kong, I don't relish Cantonese...

To be honest, I don't know which are the most common languages but just thought I'd throw it out there to suggestions or if anyone else has learnt a new language and how easy/hard it was?

Did read the other day somewhere English was actually one of the hardest to learn???

How about looking at it another way - what languages do you feel are useful for where you live?

Wasp - Spanish. Spoken widely and in places that are generally worth visiting. Also grammatically quite simple so one of the quickest to pick up.

putting aside all other considerations...on the assumption that you're a male of the age still interested in the opposite sex go for French

JoC beat me to it!

I was told english, french, spanish and portuguese; due to colonial history.
I suspect if you speak the above, you can communicate with most numbers of people across continents.
