Hello,
I plan to move for winter to Marbella (Spain, Costa del Sol) area, rent some apartment and trade from there (US stocks, swing trading). Are there already traders ? What is your experiences with such movements, any recommendations ? How about broadband Internet access in area ?

Thank for reply,

Pete

Bet there are some great buys in the property market down there. Wouldn't think you can go far wrong IF you a) do your research and b) view it as a holiday home and NOT an investment. If it goes up then great, but if it falls (as long as you've bought at a good price) then who cares it's still a good holiday apartment/villa.

I think Marbella and Estepona are the only regions in Spain that have gone up in terms of property value over the past year.

I hope that Marbella have got their corruption crisis sorted out. I haven't heard much about it for ages but a lot of property was built on land that had no building permission.

If all your deals go through the proper channels, there should be no trouble but due care and attention must be paid.

Anley, Boiler Room type scams were the order of the day in Gil's day and I believe that the ex-mayoress is doing time for her part in giving unofficial permission to constructors---for a fee, of course.

Yes I've heard a lot about the ex mayor, and the problems with property's. A hotel round the corner has been pulled down afer 10million construction, because there was no permit to build. But I think it has been cleaned up a lot over the past few years.

That's why I rent ! Two properties in the UK is enough for me

Read today in the paper that one developer is saying 'buy a £600k villa and I'll through you in a 1 bedrommed apartment'.

If it was me I'd id the guy £300k (maybe push £350k at a stretch) and say forget about the aprtment. Chances are he'd tell me to get lost, I'd reply 'here's my number, you know where to get hold of me, the offer stands for 5 weeks'. Bwt I'd get a call you know, perhaps not to deal at my price but a call nevertheless........

Years ago I saw that one could winter (one month or more) over in Spain for silly money. Is it still possible?

Prices have risen here the same as everywhere else. My in-laws are over here three or four times a year. Retired folk, of course, and they stay with one of the family over here (my wife's one of five daughters), so they save there or they would not be able to afford it so many times. The air fares were cheap the last time that they were over, in June, and they say that food, public transport is cheap. As someone who has not been in the UK since 1987, I'd say that it is cheaper, still, in comparison.

Come on, come out and give the economy a boost.

moving to marbella

Hi Pete, I'm moving to Marbella next week (Dec 8th) and am keen to hook up with people down there.
I will be living very close to Marbella town, near the Guadalpin and Marbella Club hotels.
Rgds,
Xander
