AVI photo files editing

Hi
Any of you tech. wizzo's able to tell me how to edit avi camera video clips in order that I can cut out selected images from the clips for use as photo's or for emailing to others. ?

I have a windows media player and can play the clips but cannot find an editing tool to enable me to cut out frames that interest me for use as individual photo's?

Not for slicing up clips into stills - I think!
Found Windows moviemaker on my system - brilliant. I can stitch together all the clips, edit and run a small movie. Also take screen shots and make a slide show with Adobe photoshop.
I've amazed myself with my techie progress.

This media player will allow you to quickly take snapshot captures, very versatile little player.
