Recently, I learn that the unemployment rate of IT graduates is near 30%! Is it really so poor? Is the IT job market collapsing?

experience, experience, experience. sadly, the catch-22 of you only get decent work if you have experience, but you can only get ........ etc

the market is actually quite bouyant, speaking as a freelance Business Analyst and System Developer in my niche area.

but it depends on what you mean by "IT". Do you mean programming/developer (hard skills), or more management (soft/inter-personal skills) ?

I have found my soft skills of generic business knowledge and working with management gives me a better edge over geeky computer-whizzes. (although you can never be a true IT person unless you have a disturbingly deep knowledge of Star Trek)

given that more and more major development projects are out-sourced to asia and eastern europe, project management is a primary skill and IT background a strong secondary skill.
(being better able to judge time-scales of delivery / problem resolution through superior technical knowledge)

hope that helps, but in a nutshell - IT market is bouyant and profitable place to be at the moment.

What's it like for IT girls I wonder? ;)

My company's trying to hire 4 support grads at the moment and the quality of the CVs and the candidates themselves is fairly dire - there's no excuse for a graduate to have spelling mistakes on a CV or no knowledge of the subjects they've written on their CV!

So is it the job market or the over-supply of poor grads?!

-TPO.
