8mm to laptop?

Hi,

Been going through boxes of some old gear and found a few old 8mm video cassettes I'd forgotten about.

I don't have the camera anymore but was considering looking on eBay to pick up a cheap one so I can transfer the tapes across and put them onto DVD or at least on the hard drive for now.

Does anyone know if this will be possible? I have seen ad's in eBay for co's/people that will transfer for me but I'd rather do it myself if its pssible?

Any one any idea?
 
Don't think so GammaJammer...

I mean the 3" by 2" tapes for camcorders...
 
jezza it can be done you need a composite video input into your computer I use a Dazzle box which connects to the usb port and this works well you need to have a decent amount of ram though 512+

we are talking about 8mm /super8 mini cassettes I may be able to help are you in the UK?

Yes it is possible and very easy to do. Check to make sure you get the correct format camera, ie/ Video8, Hi8 or Digital 8. Usually, the higher quality cameras are backwards compatible.
