Football - World Cup-----------

Hi Guys, includes the ladies,

The World Cup is opon us in a years time.

Who in your opinion would stand a good chance of winning it among the leading
fancies, and who would be a fair outside shot.

Hi Ken. My heart says England, what a result that would be in the Germans back yard. Rooney to score the winner in injury time against the Brazilians in the Final.

Unfortunately my head says Brazil ( or Spain as the outsiders.

germany as the outsiders.. home teams always do well (spain 82,italy 90, korea 02, france 98, euro 96 etc)

stand a good chance of getting to the semis at least, even though their team is absolute bobbins. michael ballack? dont make me laugh.

as for the winners. id favour argentina over brazil, but it is a tight, tight call.

Germany

Last time it was held in Germany the Germans won. They will have a really good team and will be hard to beat.

Italy and of course Brazil would be my next choices.

No-hopers : ENGLAND - they will fail as soon as they meet a top team in the knockout stage if they get that far, and of course always assuming they do qualify in the first place. I see Poland are heading the qualifying group at the moment.

South Americans in Europe

History shows that it is rare for South American teams to win the world cup in Europe, so although Brazil and Argentina are the bookies favourites, European teams have a better chance than most would expect.

You have to go back to Sweden in '58 for the last time Brazil or Argentina were world champions in Europe..

As for England, they have their best squad for years, but need to shake off an inferiority complex against the big four of Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Germany...
