Purchasing Foreign Currency in the UK

For reasons far too mundane to go into, I need to buy US dollars in the UK.

As I want rather a large amount ($70,000), can anyone recommend a more cost effective method than simply arranging it through a high street bureau de change?

Thanks.

Yes. For that amount, the International Banking Division of your major high street bank should be able to offer you a much better rate than the tourist rate.

You'd be surprised just how much 'foreign' currency the various exchanges at airports carry. And just how competitive their rates are (and can be - they will negotiate for larger amounts). They're fairly keen to dump it.

You may not fancy hauling that amount of cash around LGW or LHR, but if you want it in cash and at a good rate...
