Nukes scare off the bigger countries from starting a war ?
So in a kind of way nukes are peace makers...

The scary part would be if a small country with a leader that have nothing to loose and ain't afraid of dying and sacrafising everything in the name of some god or just pure insanity or those two combined.

So I dont really know whats better...

Remove all nukes on earth but along with that the temptation of traditional war grows, when the fear of being defeated by a bunch of nukes is gone

Or

Hand out nukes to everybody.. Everybody would be affraid to start a war, because they know if they lunch one, they will get one back in their head...

Pandora is out of the box and has been since WWII. There is nothing that one can do to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. N.Korea and Iran are showing us that..

Therefore, whether it is "good" or "bad" is academic.

Sooner or later we will be faced with a rogue state who will decide to use one. Israel against Iran, or vice versa? It does not matter to the rest of us, does it?

Knowledge of things has been lost before Split, it could happen. Especially if we start firing them off :D

There is no doubt, in my mind, that it will happen.. When, is anyone's guess. We should, also, bear in mind that terrorists who do not mind committing suicide with ordinary explosives, are not going to worry about using a nuclear device.

There is a low chance in my view that a nation state will use them because of the consequences to itself. Far more worrying is if any of these end up in the hands of extremists who would use them without hesitation.

Disagree.

Would you be the one to try calm Mike Tyson down after he'd just knocked someone out? Worked out OK for America.

When countries like N.Korea have them I agree with you.

Funny how times change though isn't it? When it was just the superpowers and selected allies that had them, everyone was terrified of nuclear Armageddon.

Now that every tinpot lunatic has got (or is getting them), nobody seems bothered. Nuclear Iran? Nothing to see here, go back to sleep folks .

Every nation owns "Cobalt thorium G" bombs that activate only if the country is attacked and it is impossible to disarm them. The Doomsday Machine.

Yeah and it would be cool that a country that has a Doomsday Machine would announce it. Because that is the point of it.

^__^

Just looking back at the past it seems humans that get into power have an absurd destructive urge. Whether it is against supposed rivals or enemies we are cursed by violence.

To urge peace etc. just has to be the great benefit of religions........

Start

If Life > 0 Then: survival instinct = TRUE

If Intelligent life > 0 Then:
.......ability to perceive own mortality = TRUE
.......nuclear weapons = TRUE

ability to perceive own mortality + survival instinct + inability to solve death = religion

IF religion = TRUE Then: multi faiths = TRUE

IF multi faiths = TRUE Then: inter faith conflict = TRUE

inter faith conflict + nuclear weapons = Doomsday

IF Doomsday = TRUE Then: Life = 0

End

Would be best with no nuke at all, anywhere, but obviously that's not realistic.
So all in all, we either raise awareness, raise consciousness, or eventually suffer big problems around the world. I guess another option would be to have massive defense plans, but that also is not a picture perfect scenario. Ah well... humanity....
