Just launched today, and with a decent MM this could work really well I think, although I'm a bit surprised they have launched without a MM! It uses an extension of the Betfair API, so I'll be doing a port of BDI over to this exchange in the coming weeks.

Has anyone tried playing Tradefair binaries yet? If so, any problems, any suggestions for improvement?

Yeah, some issues:

1) Capital Spreads (the current MM) aren't posting particularly tight spreads, usually around 4-6 points with £4-£5/point on both sides of the spread. They are also only MMing on about half of the range of markets, and seem to pull their prices way too often (although normally only for a few seconds at a time).

2) The standard TF interface is a bit of pain to use - takes far too long to submit an order.

3) Low volumes so far, probably because Betfair haven't started promoting it yet, and it only was initially announced a couple of weeks ago.

The following needs to happen for Tradefair to really take off:

1) CS either needs to tighten its spreads to 4 points or better (with ideally £10/point or more on both sides of the spread) or at least one other MM needs to join them. The MMs also need to make sure that prices are being posted close to 100% of the time, and the full range of TF markets need to have a MM present to get going.

2) The Betfair API ladder interfaces need to be compatible with TF asap, as they are perfectly suited to binary trading. BDI v2.2 will feature full integration with TF and will be released in a few months time.

3) Betfair/Tradefair need to do some serious promotion in order for the exchange to have a chance of getting off the ground - one of the main reasons why binexx.com failed from low liquidity was because hardly anyone had heard of it. However, it may be best for them to wait until the standard interface is faster to use, or until some of the Betfair API interfaces start supporting TF - the current interface will put a lot of people off.

Chris

Good post. I agree that the current interface isn't suitable for binaries as it is too slow for setting and submitting a bet and too slow updating (just like the rest of BF).

Cheers - are there any features in particular which you think an interface to Tradefair should have? (The feature list for BDI v2.2 will be finalised in about 2 weeks time)

Well the features just need to work and be like BB. So either place the order at the market(current quote) without having to re-adjust all the time OR place at a specified price. The currect system clears the size each time you click on the currect bid/ask making it too hard to try and trade.

Well it has a ladder-style interface, where you can just point and click to send orders (as do most of the other Betfair API interfaces)

Interesting - I was wondering how long it would take Chris F. Masse before he noticed BinarySoft :)

I did'nt knew him before but very interesting stuff he's blogging. I do not Know much about all the prediction issues but i believe that this becomes more and more popular. its seems the betfair world turn more and more into that business.

This is also a great article (from David Jack, CEO of tradefair)

Really strange, that blog has Google PR 6. How could it be? Is that prediction stuff so popular in UK?

Try a google search for "link: midasoracle" - there are quite a few sites linking to it. Betfair is pretty huge in the UK, especially after the recent law change on September 1st which allows all UK betting companies to advertise on TV. I've also heard that Betfair are doing TV advertising in other European countries, including Sweden.

I've tried Tradefair and after some losses and some wins I am about 10% ahead. But the markets and bet types are so limited, the liquidity so miniscule, and getting out so time consuming, that I'm only going to go back to it when it's as good as the other binary providers.

Surely trading out is pretty time consuming with some of the bookmakers? (15 seconds or more to accept bets, plus bet rejections when prices have moved etc.)

I've never had a problem trading out with extrabet or binarybet, and I tend not to trade when prices are moving faster than their platform can cope with.

Yeah binarybet are probably the best bookmaker in terms of speed of execution and tolerance of winning punters. However, once Tradefair is more liquid I think it will then be the best place to trade (certainly for the markets listed on Tradefair), although it may be a while before they offer as many markets as binarybet.

IG offers 24/7 Trading with full order books. It's a huge challenge to beat them.

@BinarySoft Chris - Do you have any explanation, why they offer a regulated binary betting market with the capitalspreads platform and an unregulated market with tradefair?

And i have read elsewhere that you want offer a application to connect with LCG.
As far as i know they have'nt any API yet -how you want manage this issue?

Not sure what you mean here - IG/BinaryBet have their own platform for binary bets which is completely separate from Capital Spreads' platform. Also note that binary betting in the UK is not regulated by the FSA.

BDI v2.2 will be fully compatible with the Tradefair API, which is an extension of the Betfair API. Capital Spreads are currently the sole market maker at Tradefair.
