Hi,
Can you recommend a good book on charts to look at market structure, major and minor support and resistance frameworks, trends analysis (strengths, momentum, volatility etc) preferably using candlestick charts. I am not after a book on trigger point patterns or the use of indicators, but a solid foundation on price movement.
(I lean towards swing trading most instruments but not stocks)

Thanks
Jason

I would say these three will help build excellent foundations:

1) The Candlestick course / Japanese Candlestick charting techniques - Steve Nison
2) Mind Over Markets* - Dalton, Jones and Dalton
3) Trade Chart patterns like the Pro's - Suri Dudella

Don't be put off by the title of 3), it is a very useful book to have lying around; pick out a few that work for you and stick to them. Steve Nison is the authority on candlesticks.

* Mind Over Markets is originally designed as an introduction to Market Profile techniques, but that does not mean it isn't worth reading.

Mr Gecko

Excellent, I was hoping an experienced member would recommend Suri Dudella, but I did not want to prompt. I was a bit reluctant to buy it without recommendation due to the cost and posting costs from the U.S. But you have just tipped the balance for me.

I have a copy of Steve Nison book as a free ebook, but have not paid it the attention it no doubt deserves, due to the format. I shall look again at it and consider buying a paper copy.

I have never heard of Mind Over Markets, but I shall look into it, because a general overlook is what I probably need at this time.

Thanks again for your comprehensive reply
Jason

See PM.

You might want to wait for a few other members to chime in with their thoughts before spending your hard earned... also Suri Dudella posts over on ET I think so maybe you can check out some of his posts?

Mr Gecko,
See PM-

I have never sent sent a PM from T2W before, so if it does not reach you...Big Thanks

Another book you might want to look at, that is not that expensive is "The Secrets of Candlestick Charting", by Louise Bedford, around $40 AUD

cheers

Peaceful Warrior, Thank you for your suggestion it is great to have a recommendation from someone who I know is a full time trader. Reading the reviews I like The sound of the relaxed layout for this book, (which will be a holiday, then lunch time read for me)

Ushuan, Thank you too, I have heard of this author, who is very well respected the sample pages and reviews look good for this book too.

And yes my new wife does think I am nuts, reading TA books on holiday!, (just don't mention the honeymoon!)

Thank you -I am really pleased that all the books suggested have stuck to my request for a solid grounding on charts and not just specific set ups or indicators.
