I am a fourth Year student at the University of Edinburgh studying Economics and Sociology. As part of my Dissertation I am required to work shadow 5 traders. To observe how they work and how there work is affected by the current economic environment. What I am interested in is your personal experiences as a trader. This would take place in the month of July 2009.

If you are willing to volunteer, contact me at [email protected], I would very grateful for your help.

Yours gratefully

Ok, I will try and take this post seriously.

What would the traders get out of participating in this study? I doubt you are going to get much cooperation without some incentive -- we are naturally a little sceptical when there is not an obvious 'risk reward' ratio.

As traders we are naturally a cold hearted bunch with very little emotion -- it comes with the territory. I swear some of the 'people' on this forum are just like the Tin Man in the 'Wizard of Ozz'. We have trouble with the concept of volunteering.

Did I mention that most of us are scared of the sun? Therefore, the research would have to be carried out at night.

Is that serious enough?

I'm sure there are traders out there who would at least agree to be interviewed by a student to help them with their studies.

Paddington- why do you have trouble taking the post seriously?- The original poster asked a very legitimate question.

My question is what twat set this for you in the first place?

Your best bet is to contact the personnel dept of banks and hedge funds, After all They are the idiots who got everyone in this mess. Or so we are told.

Good luck.

I'm a very negative and highly sceptical human being  I am not being nasty; just practical.
I'm sure if the person is genuine they will receive some cooperation; however, as I have stated I'm a cynical chap.

My attitude is simply: beware of wolves is cheap clothing. Or sheaps clothing . . . something like that!

If you have some questions, post them here. You will get some serious replies.

But as for shadowing traders while they work? Well that will be a bit difficult for you I should think.

We are by nature a very secretive bunch I'm afraid. And if you did shadow 5 traders. You would know exactly how they worked.

And for some that would mean giving their 'edge' away.

How much are you going to get out of watching someone watch a chart and some movies all day and once in a while put some orders in the market?

May as well watch a friend of yours watch tv and once in a while order a pizza.
