Recommendation for SII Unit 1 Regulations and SII Unit 2 Securities

Hi, im hoping to sit the regulations and securities exams in 2-3 months time and was wondering if anyone could recommend me some study material or courses. I have looked about for books / study material to study and prepare myself for the exams but i have walked into a few different ones and was hoping to see what people here would recommend.

I have also seen some courses which put you threw the training, exams etc but not to sure if its really worth the money. I have ooked at beabroker.co.uk but i think the price tag looks a bit heavy, anyone agree?

Thanks

hey, i saw your post, have you passed yet? i have just booked with beabroker too but price looks heavy to me too....just wondering how it all went for you?

I'd stay well away from 'beabroker'. It's just another scam that prays on the young and inexperienced

You pay £1,500 for the Sii certificates (which you can do yourself for £300) and then they promise you a job at the end of it, subject to consultation.

The problem is even if they do offer you a job at the end it's not a job you'd be wise to take. They'll place you in a small cap churn and burn boiler room on a £15K basic but '£100k OTE'. You'll be cold calling all day long and if you don't make your monthly targets you're out. These places have a huge staff turn over. To make matters worse these places are a real cv killer.

If you want to do the Sii certs then as Magos suggests go with BPP or 7City

I have studied with both BPP and 7city. My experience:

7city runs a 'softer' course and their classes and notes prove simplistic. BPP takes a more professional approach.

Both will provide the necessary support. Rather than struggling over a course provider (there will always be proponents and oponents of both) give yourself five seconds to make a decision then begin studying!

These are basic entry level quals.: not sure why anyone would offer you a job just for taking them! Most importantly find a stable job in a good house and put your head down for a few years.

Good luck.

JG.

Hi PualoP,

I couldn't help but comment on this, as you are absolutely correct. I registered with them a while back and have passed by regs unit 1 exam and im about to take unit 2. They promised me the world but a while back after trying to call the director of the company for 3 weeks non stop he finally picked up. I asked is the "promise" of a job offer still on and could i book my unit 1 exam?
His reply was the company had gone into liquidation and id lost £200 worth of exam fees. He then promised me he would pay that back in december. Its febuary now and he never picks up and iv had to register with the sii, pay for unit 1 and unit 2 exams out of my pocket (an additonal £300).
I think my question would be to you is do you have any advice of how to get that money back firstly. I mean legal action is an option but do you know of any other cases?
And secondly after gaining a certificate in Securities what job options do i have and do you recommend any creditable agencies?

Many Thanks, jay84
