Only if you program a system yourself, not buy a ready made

Why dont you program metatrader expert advisor for FREE

:smart:

Forex autopilot is a disaster. Stay away if you value your money and your sanity.

why would anyone sell a system that can supposedly make thousands a week, for just $399? the system should be called "Greed Autopilot".

Engage brain.

I work with a successful trader who also "sells" his system on collective2 so I now realise why some traders who can consistently take X amount out of the market sell their work too. He is here taking the trades and also calling them to his subscribers who can then make the same returns as him which are excellent from what I have seen so far. I think some system vendors do it because earning a huge income from an automated system you have created takes the pressure off your trading. It stops you worrying about the P&L and also means you can free up your time to not have to come in and work and do more important things in life like spend time with your family etc. Also, remember there are good analysts that cannot trade for sh*t. I know people that can tell you exactly where the market is going but can they pull the trigger or having done that, can they run their profits? No way. So they don't make it as traders but instead go into business giving signals. Another person that has a better trading mentality could make a killing following them. That is not to say that Autopilot is any good. Most of these systems are total BS. But I still think that people are too quick to say "why would anyone sell their system if it could make so much money..." etc etc. People at work say the same thing to me. If your strategy is so good why do you spend 6 hours a day teaching others how to trade it rather than just getting on and making money yourself? Well, I do both. But I enjoy teaching. Not everything is as black and white as people think.

Anyway, I digress. Before paying for a system, a free trial is vital. Forget about previous results. They are useless. You want a trial in real time to evaluate it. If you don't get that, then don't touch it. And forget about money back guarantees if you fail to make money. The vendor will most likely always give you a reason why you can't get the money back. e.g. You didn't take the signal at the right time or didn't manage it correctly etc

you're right TD, for a profitable trader, there is of course the opportunity to sell the signals and profit from subscribers. If a system is scaleable, its a great chance to derive additional income from your everyday trading.

but you have to admit that the "real deal" traders who do this are few and far between, and the guys flogging forex bots promising thousands a week for a few hundred bucks are not normally in the same league.

Additionally, there are many fakers masquerading as the sort of traders you describe, but who cannot trade or make relaible calls.

I'd have to agree - while it is possible that someone could have reason to sell their system/signals, the vast majority of vendors seem to be borderline scammers. I won't name anyone, but I think there are people out there charging people to learn to trade who are the real deal. On the other hand, a lot of the systems being peddled claim to be fully automated, low risk, massively compounding, with minimal variance - in this case, there isn't much incentive to sell.

Moral of the story is to assume these people are full of it unless proven otherwise over a decent sample size (real time, not potentially curve-fitted or carefully selected backtests).

There is a lot of selection bias there. The idea is to offer many systems, some will make good paper profits. As long as someone uses them, they stop making profit naturally because they are basically optimized filters. They have no particular edge to exploit, it is just a random selection of systems and some happen to make money in paper.

To be more explicit, because someone wins the lottery most of the time, it does not mean that someone will be you. This is selection bias if you say that because someone wins the lottery, lottery is a profitable game.

To win in Forex it is quite possible. I have done it several times I made big gains but to do that you MUST exploit some kind of an edge.

Good luck.

I have merged two of kmap's parallel threads.

All content is intact (apart from kmaps multiple postings) and all seems to be in reasonable order and make sense.

So, can you tell us who this consistently successful system trader is and how much he makes? I'm sure he would appreciate the publicitity.....

There is no such thing as consistently successful system.
You should always reprogram your system to adapt to new market conditions.

What about systems that can adapt to changing market conditions without user intervention? There are systems that could be described as consistently profitable but not in the sense of making exactly £x each day.

They are called quantitative systems, but they always seem to fail. (99%)
Human behavior vs Machine
Check the Subprime crisis. (A small percentage made alot of money, good quantitative systems programming)

Remember futures are a Zero-sum game.

If you could build an AI system that could forecast the market behavior....

then for me you are god

Where did you get that 99% figure from? How do you know that quantitative systems "always seem to fail"?

99% is relative... but if you leave in the UK, you probably need remortgage.
If Lehman’s, Morgan’s and Merrill get it wrong, you will get it right??? ???

They are supposed to have the best traders
