Hi guys,
I am going to attend the interview at STA. Is it any good? Do I have to pay any money for the course they provide and if I am taken on, do I have to pay any money for trading for them? Anyway, has anyone taken this course at STA?

I went to the interview ......but didn’t get through
My mate went and he was selected on the programme (Lucky F*****) !! ...but after the "training" period (I think its 3 months or so )…… he was told to hop on his bike !! ......he said that some other guy and him where amongst the best performers in the group but were both shown the door....

U don’t have to pay money for the training period ....they pay You...... but its not a lot..... Well put it this way your are still going to have to pull £££ out your own pocket... if you rent in London ......the salary covers travel and food whilst you are training… And that’s it!!!

If you’re STILL successful after the training and they keep you on...... (Don’t forget.... they no longer pay you a salary now) ....then you have to pay for your desk , however that’s taken out from the profits you generate before the split ........is what I have been told when I asked ...

BUT "my advice is" If you can afford to take the plunge in terms of earning's i.e.: can survive on ( lets say for example £100 a week) for at least 9- 12 months then and only then .......go for it

BTW I did this about 2 years ago now !!

Hi BJ21,

Thanx for the reply. I am suppose to do it next month. Anyway, have you heard of FUTEX? They also provide some futures trading training. I have been invited for an assessment. Back to STA, What is the maths test about? Can you tell me, what kind of financial instruments they trade? Is it FX futures contracts or equity futures or anything else? Cheers.

STA - Maths test; simple mental maths +-[ 2,100] , /*[2-100] and some decimals, the key is to be quick ..... I found it helps to do the questions that bounce out at you and leave the ones you have to think about, but do read the instructions for the questions.
Trade allsorts FX spot, mainly futures indices ....but will put you on bund, bobl low volatilty stuff.

Futex - (1) Maths test again simple stuff, (2) Logic/reasoning IQ stuff, (3) Market knowledge - you should already know this stuff.
again trade everything, but they will put you on a product that suits your trading style best.

STA pay better for training and the training period is not as long .....(less time for you to prove yourself)
Futex will most likely have a lower desk fee being out of the city, but a lower salary for training.

They will both make you sign a contract, 4 years for Futex !!

You must have a good CV .....whats you education/experience like ?

Thanx for the reply again.
Hope I have a good CV. I got MSc in Economics of Post and Telecommunications, studying Economics, Banking and Finance as well as Economics of Post and Telecommunications. Thesis: Credit Analysis. I have also undertaken a private trading training provided by a Senior Trader in an Investment Bank in London in trading currencies, commodities and financial derivatives. Hope it is enough to be taken on as a trader. I dream of to be a trader. I self-study, I really desire to became a trader. I don`t mind to start in a back office or middle office. Do you know any banks or investment companies currently taking on trainee traders? Anyway, are you a trader yourself? Thank you.
