f you are just getting started, and you are interested in investments I would strongly suggest having a look at Ftsie - The Property Stock Market.

You buy shares in properties of your choice, you can put in as little as 10 pounds and they manage and resell the properties for you. Some of their current properties are expected to make 50% returns within 6 months and membership is free. They also offer lots of help and advice.

This could be a good way to make some extra money whilst learning etc.

As Sj's 50% short implies - this sounds absolutely brilliant. Are you a friend of tippler's ? http://www.trade2win.com/boards/money-property/29860-can-anyone-help-me.html#post404379

My friend has a load of credit card debt and is having trouble paying the mortgage (I think it may be sub-prime). Do you think this would be a suitable investment?

I do know of lots of people in Nigeria who have $$$$ millions to invest (deceased accounts etc) - may be you could do business with them?

If you or your friend may be interested, I suggest you have a look at the website to get a firmer idea of what it is all about, registration is free. I do think if you have money to invest then it's a good idea as property is the safest investment. :smart:

Well, have fun whatever you decide to do and if you do try the site be sure to let me know how you get on

Grant,

Speaking of Nigeria, you might find this excerpt from the FT of interest:

Resolving readers’ dilemmas with the
tools of Adam Smith

Dear Economist,
I am a close confidant of one of Nigerias most powerful families. The wife of a former top government official who served in the previous military regime in Nigeria, and is currently having a face-off with the authorities, wishes to move out of Africa the sum of US$15m. It is my client’s desire that this deaL be handled as quietly as possible. If you agree to receive this fund on behalf of my client, please supply me with your bank account details and I shall arrange for the release of this sum of US$15m to you. Your commission shall be a down payment of 15 per cent of the total sum. And annual 5 per cent of the after-tax returns on investment you are to manage for the first five years.
God bless. As I await your response.

Best regards,
Bernard Nwazojie
------------------------
Dear Mr Nwazojie,

You are on the verge of making a serious mistake. You are offering me $2m up-front, plus a few hundred thousand a year for five years. In exchange, all you require of me is my bank details. These terms seem highly generous. There are about 50 million people in this country with bank accounts. One of the others might be willing to work with you for substantially less than you have offered me. You should really shop around a bit.
Indeed, both non co-operative and co-operative game theoretic models suggest that, as there are so many account holders, but only one $15m looking fora home, your bargaining power is almost limitless. You could hold an online auction to find out who was willing to receive the cash for the smallest cut; but at least solicit a few competitive bids. Otherwise, for me to take your money would feel like fraud.

God bless.
(This week’s Economist is Tim Harford, a Peter Martin fellow at the FT)

I feel like we're communicating with someone who's a decade behind us.

Now is a bad time to invest in property. Perhaps where you are in 1995, things are looking up. A message from the future: buy as many properties as you can and sell your entire portfolio in 2007. And buy lots of oil futures. Oil will hit $100. And gold. Gold will hit $1000. I know, it's unbelievable in 1995 but, well, I don't know if I can send charts back to the past but if I can, I will try...

Oh, yeah, and if you're holding any dotcom shares, the bubble will burst in 2002, so when they start falling in price, get rid, but hold on to your Amazon shares. (y)

0007,

I've had quite a few of these. Somebody will fall for it, they always do. By the way, what's a "Peter Martin fellow"? Sounds a bit pretentious, but not surprising coming from the FT (not newspaper, but a schmoozpaper).

Details here FT.com / In depth - Peter Martin Fellowship - did wonder myself when I originally read it!

Personally, I prefer the lottery wins I keep getting - sound so much less dodgy than the Nigerian scams. I did hear of someone posing as a vicar who got £50 out of the bloke in Nigeria - apparently on the basis that he needed the dosh for essential admin etc :LOL:

I'm a bit worried now, that we've hijacked Ftsie's thread. Perhaps those nice Mods will transfer it to Joke of the day?

But this isn't an investment in property, its an investment in some people I have never heard of who will (you say) invest the money in property for me.

And who says property is the safest investment anyway?

In any case, most of us are already heavily invested in property if we are home-owners. Wouldn't some diversification away from property be safer?

Ah, but then you are looking for 'young entrepreneurs' (when I say 'looking for', perhaps I mean grooming).
