Is it wise to "inspire" traders?

Hi all - really grateful if anyone reads let alone responds to this post!

I've been thinking about putting together a soiree of sorts devoted to some of the best traders I know sharing their advice on what makes them successful.

Having said this, I hear feedback that "traders don't like to share" and that "they prefer market info" rather than "how to improve their performance or teams".

Just wanted to know to what extent people agree with this?

I keep thinking... surely there's an appetite for people with a common vocation to celebrate the field as well as celebrate the achievements of others?

As ever, any thoughts are highly appreciated ;)

Why would successful traders want to share knowledge and techniques that they have spent years and considerable sums learning themselves? My attitude is "let others learn the hard way, like I had to"

At the end of the day, trading is a zero-sum game. I make a profit because other traders made a loss. So why would I be interested in helping other people be successful? To be blunt, I couldn't care less if others are struggling. Let them.

I'm a musician who wouldn't really be comfortable with the exact route I took to compose certain pieces to be honest so I guess I agree with what you're saying.

What about focusing more on the important competencies required to be a good trader and getting people to share on mind-sets and principles rather than the cold hard facts?

Why are you using a traders' forum?
 
Inspiring others is like give them little information , in a dangerous game , little information can be dangerous.If you care about those you wish to inspire , give them all the information and remind them , this is a deadly game.
 
The only truth you will find is every one trades within a comfort zone , they have find their comfort zone , your inspiration can do damage,

To be honest, I was sorta "inspired" (he he) by a post on this very forum: http://www.trade2win.com/boards/new-trade2win/119406-nature-vs-nurture-good-traders-born-made.html

and I started to think how there's so much depth you can go into on each of such topics.

In terms of speakers, they'd mainly be people who don't trade but nonetheless who have useful insights into various character traits necessary to survive/succeed as a trader.

Any more credible an idea?

the ones who don't share are so successful , that they can do , but do it to afford a new underwear every few months like Piphoe
 
I don't think your idea will be a success. I doubt that successful traders sit on forums, let alone write something on them or go to various events. And sharing their experience they will never do, at least that's very unlikely.

Can their advice make you a success ? If not then they are as worthless as useless. Large numbers of them would merely disseminate misinformation. People following what they say will lose their shirts.

Since people are already losing their shirts, I don't suppose it matters if you show them more ways to lose their shirts

My experience is that listening to other people's views on trading has been helpful – as time goes on it becomes easier to discern what is useful and what is not. I would therefore welcome your project and hope that you will undertake it.

Just because almost all news is biased, a percentage is fake and only a small amount may be worthwhile taking note of, doesn't stop most people listening does it?

I agree 100% with Joe, how exactly this is going to work and what sane person who spent years developing his trading strategy will give it for free, unless you get every one drunk out of their minds, but then you risk they'll forget something ;-)
