Hi, me and a couple of friends have decided we want to learn how to trade, any advice, knowledge or tips to help us would be very much appreciated, thanks!

My advice would be to start off by isolating what type of Market you are most "interested" in to begin with. This means what you're personally interested in and whether it's a viable option based upon the learning capital you will be allocating (after you "paper trade").

If Forex (my field), check out http://www.babypips.com/school

That's the best place to start.

Hope this helps.

Open demo accounts and practise on it what you learn from tutorials and the like. Don't start trading with real money right away. Figure out what kind of trading is best suited for you - day trading, swing trading, scalping, etc. Take the time to just watch the market, pick several currency pairs and observe how they behave under different conditions.

Always try and borrow money from a pessimist.

He seldom expects to get it back (y)

I think you should read more economic news on credit sources like bloomberg, reuters.. to know what is happening right now

how serious are you ?
how much time do you have available to learn ?
how much money do you have to lose ?

and you would be wise to now run solo ..........this isn't really a team sport - its your money so make your own decision .......unless you have decided to run some kind of portfolio when you vote on whats in and out ...............but that's investing and not trading ........ ;)

Learn technical analysis,in my opinion it's easier to understand for newbies, but don't forget to always check trading calendars before you begin trading to see whether there are any high impact events during the day.
