Who can trade the US markets after the markets ends and before it starts every day?

Can I as an individual do it? Is it expensive?

You can trade pre and post market with ECNs but you can only trade with Market Makers during market hours. The problem with pre and post market trading is that liquidity is poor even on the most heavily traded stocks. There are ways of making profit but it can involve much more risk.

OK, I see. I guess it is no place for amateurs...

So it is not something spreadbetting companies would offer?

sb's don't offer pre or after market on us stocks. All the ones i've seen don't anyway. You can trade the indices when the stocks are closed but the theres little movement usually. I guess you want to play the earnings etc.

Yes, what I would like to do is enter a trade before the markets open, to be able to avoid the opening gap.

Is this possible to do this indices on SB's?

you can trade indices with sb's well before and after the stocks are open and closed
