Question Average spreads on particular equities

Hello,

I'm a prospective trader (in fact a student with some time on my hands) still formulating a strategy for spread betting major UK equities.

One thing I don't seem to be able to find is information on the typical spread that an individual equity trades with during the day. Is this available anywhere?

I have 20 - 25 (mainly FTSE 100 and a very few FTSE 250 and well-behaved AIM stocks) equities on my list that I monitor closely, so obviously I know which ones tend to have speads that are less than 0.1%, less than 0.4%, etc, but it would be very handy for comparison and adding new equities to my list to be able to access information about this in advance of adding it and monitoring it. There seem to be things that generally point to a dangerously high spread, like low volume, but it would still be useful to have a more precise comparison.

Any pointers or help on this would be much appreciated!
