Hi, I am a university student currently, and when i leave university next year I wish to have some sort of idea of how to trade accuratly, unemotionally and what ever other traits I must hone to become a "big shot".

I understand I sound naive, however what should I be doing to prepare myself in becoming a trader? where do I start? books? trading software? history? trading companies? seminars?

I really don't know what I should do.

Please teach me.

Demo trading, of course.

If you want to learn to paint, paint. If you want to learn to trade, trade. What else?

will look into demo trading thanks. I have already won a couple of poker tournaments at uni so I don't really fear money so much as I fear my own capability.

Get a small amount of money and trade very small stakes.

There are some good books around, but plenty which are a waste of time.

Seminars - no, never.

Start getting some screen time in, there is no substitute for watching how price moves.

Realise before you start that you will probably fail.

First of all you should start forex learning online. There are number of good forex websites then practice with demo account. I want to suggest MT4 trading software.

If I were you I'd rather do something constructive and enjoyable. Maybe go travelling or something. You're never gonna get these years back.

That's beautiful.

I am feeling teh love for Teh Scose.

Seriously, that's the best advice. The OP should ignore the rest of the crap on this thread and use those years to do something awesome. They can be a great time in your life and like you say, once they're gone they're gone.

Don't get into trading young, I did and it's hard to detach from. I've realised what others are saying in this thread is right, and no longer want to full-time trade. However making a side-income from trading is definitely possible and pays for fun **** like travelling while you're young.

Here's the number one rule with trading: never ever pick staying in to trade over something fun :)

can you explain that bit more? why is it not a good idea to start young? I always thought it was a good thing.

It hooks you in and before you know it 5yrs has gone by and even though you didn't change name by deed poll, others refer to you as Billy Nomates. :)

So true, and you will bore the f*** out of your mates (those you have left) talking about trading all the time.

Don't I know it...

It doesn't have to be that bad, though. Just don't waste time and immediately seek out a guy who knows what's what and suck all the trading info out of him, then trade for 16h a day until you get good. Immediately abandon trading if you think it's going to be a go-nowhere proposition.

If you do that... Maybe you'll lose 2 years at most? The idea is certainly to cut down on it until you can do a minimum number of hours a day and still make bank.

I still dont get why everyone wants to get into (retail) trading. Supposedly most lose so whats the big deal -its a job like any other job. Trading for a handsome salary ,well thats a different ball game. To make that kind of money from home is a dream most will not attain.

Focus on your current task.
Thats the best advice I can give :)

Let me tell you Mr Student what to do.

use almost half your savings and start trading immediately right now. Don't wait.
Every single u waste you are wasting the opportunity to earn money.

In essence,
"In order to earn money, you need to lose money first."

Waiting means he avoids the opportunity to blow his student loan or whatever,
jeopardising the very reason for being in university in the first place.
Its hardly a certainty that won't happen is it.

Concentrate on your degree.
Thats why you went to uni after all...

^ agree with above.

If you get a good degree you will have something to fall back on if you dont do well trading.
