Default Hi and a few questions

Hi everyone, my name is Brett and i'm from New Zealand.

I'm fairly new to trading and of course like anyone that's new we're very excited about jumping right in. But like anything there's a wealth of knowledge needed to be known first. I'm in my early 20's and looking to get started, but don't worry i'm not looking for the 'quickest way' or fastest route, i know that these things take time and experience to learn. What i would like to know though is WHERE you started out, HOW did you start and more importantly WHY.
Personally i looked to trading because i figured i shouldn't be working for someone else to free up more of their time but rather be working for myself to free up more of mine.

Thanks guys, your answers will be greatly appreciated by the way you have a great forum here and a huge amount of information to be soaked in great for people looking where to start!

Hey B.......

I travelled around NZ and also worked in Queenstown in the 90's ..........you have a fantastic and beautiful country !

just spend a lot of time in the T2W forums and hunt out the big threads with the highest volume of viewings....it doesnt mean they are the Best ..but they will have stood the test of time so you should pick up some ideas and thoughts of where to research next on your journey

just dont buy anything expensive until you have spent 6 months researching generally..believe me there is absolutely nothing you will find more useful than time

sure a few books but dont be reeled in by someone selling you an academy or school or the greatest indicator in the world..........its all B*llsh*t in this jungle my friend

enjoy the journey and one step at a time

Thanks N,
Its common sense really isn't it? 99% of the time something isn't for nothing.
I've almost been sucked in once when first getting into the subject but further research proved it was a semi scam.
The First Steps part of the forum is amazing, huge amount of knowledge so yeah thanks i will spend a lot of time around the forums.

Well, I'm no Kiwi, British actually. I'll be giving a talk in Auckland on May 2 for these chap's, you may want to attend.

STANZ - Society of Technical Analysts of New Zealand

It will give you contacts at least in the Auckland area. Say hi if you do attend.

Ah ok haha. Yeah that sounds great, I work nights though so will have to see if I can slip that day.
What's it all really about? Like a recap group or a sharing of ideas and strategies?
Also what's your first name do that if I do come, I know who to say hi to.
Thanks,
Brett

It's the formal "Technical analysts' group in NZ. They have links with the Australian and US technical analyst institutions. They share strategies, education, latest professional developments etc.

My name is 'Grant', I'll be the chap giving the presentation in the May 2 meeting, so you shouldn't miss me in the crowd, normally about 100+ attend.
