Where can i paper trade?

Hi everyone,

this is my first post on the forum. ive been browsing the forum for a few months now and am really impressed with all the information and advice to be gained from it. for the record, im 17 years old and became interested in trading last year when my dad (blessed with holy foresight) thought it would be something im interested in. so over the year ive been slowly starting to read up on trading and all things connected. i have a real passion for it and its not something i want to do just part time after work but i really want it to be my livelihood in the years to come (obviously there's a hell of a way to go before that).

currently im reading John Murphy's TA of the financial markets on the technical side of things, and Dr Van Tharp'[s Peak Performance Course from the psychology and money management side of things.

im definitely not the kind of over- confident guy who thinks trading is a piece of cake and its a get rich quick system. i fully realize the amount of commitment and hard work it takes to be successful in this field but im willing to put it in. looking forward to learning alot from the forum.

My first query is this: being under 18, i cant open up an account yet. not that i would want to anyway being light years away (knowledge and experience wise) from being prepared to trade real cash. however it seems from my searching the web that the only way to get a solid demo account without it expiring after a month is to get a real account and then only use the demo version and stay away from the real account. most places offer me a trial account but only for 2 weeks to a month. what im looking for is a site or program that is purely a demo trading account that does not give you a limited time before asking u to sign up to a live account. free is always nice but if such a program exists,im open to paying a monthly membership for such a program should that be required.

so thats my intro and question, hope someone can help me out and once again, hi and looking forward to learning and contributing to the forum.

If it's forex you want to trade, Oanda practice account is easy to sign up and lasts.

lo and behold about 3 minutes before ur post i clicked on an advertisement for oanda and saw the words 'does not expire'. this is a great find as although im not really interested in currencies, i am interested in gold and silver (which are available through oanda) thankx for this shakone its good to know i dont need to worry about expiration. anyone know any similar sites like oanda but for spread betting commodities?

you played pokemon as a kid, that line's from the trainer in pewter city gym lololol. BTW you're not light years from anything if it exists on earth or anywhere in our solar system plus a light year is distance not time (light year = how far light travels in the space of an earth year).

back to topic: ask your dad to open a demo account on your behalf and you just sit there and click the buttons

lol although i did play pokemon as a kid cant say i remember using that line becuase of it. i thought it was a widely used phrase. thanks for the quick science lesson mate

anyway, thanks all for the suggestions, been on oanda the past week and really enjoying using it so gonna use that for forex. also gonna try out this think or swim program for trading futures so thanks for that TASK.

These guys are big paper traders

Be very careful of your choice, though, especially in giving out information and when it comes to monetary units because there are lots of scammers lately. Probably, it would be better to buy and sell physically with local refiners.
