Prop trading: "CV damage"? (2011 update)

Hi everyone

I know there are tons of threads about prop trading firms and all that but why not discuss it again? The last thread I found about CV damage dates back from 2005. I would like a 2011 update.

I know it's not the best career choice but I just finished uni (masters in finance) and find it hard to find a graduate job in investment banking. I tried all the big names but they all want experience and I find it particularly tough to find a job at the moment.

Anyway instead of sitting around doing nothing and waiting to hear back from numerous applications,I am currently considering the "positions" I was offered at Schneider/Futex. I am not naive and know they are exploiting people for very little money but I see it as an experience in the industry.

My only concern is the "CV damage" issue. People on forums keep mentioning it but they also tend to contradict themselves. My point is: people who did prop trading in the past have to be doing something somewhere now, right?
My idea is to rely on my education afterwards to find a role in IB (unlike people in prop trading with A-levels or unrelated degrees who wouldn't be able to apply for banking jobs). Also, even though the job will be completely different in prop trading vs IB, I don't see how bad little experience and knowledge of financial products + use of bloomberg terminal and other software can be that bad if you put it nicely on your CV...Your thoughts????

Thanks a lot for your help!:)

consider these lines in your CV.

a. I was entrusted to trade XX amount of money and worked hard to build a portfolio which was making YY %% for my employer.

b. I was sitting home talking bollox with w@nkers on T2W website.

which one do you think will help you to get next job better?

secret answer c) I set my laptop up on a treadmill and talked b0ll0cks to w@nkers on Trade2Win.com at a leisurely 1 mph

speaking of boll0ks.. was inspired by one of the threads to look at bike parts and found this : Theyre the frogs bollox new canti brakes in stock now | Products | News - Planet X Bikes

I am still at loss here.. why would anyone call thier product French Testicles. Unless may be if they are selling real french testicles....

I've bought a few bikes from planet x and they are indeed a bunch of oddballs, fortunately the bikes are good and don't cost the earth.

To the OP, would it be crazy idea to ask someone at an I.B what the deal is with prop traders and potential job opportunities..
