Sorry for bothering the experts, but I'm a translator and would like to understand the expression " moving from greens to whites" in the following sentence:

For the 1-2y to initiate the flattening, we need either a durable revision lower of the expected terminal rate or a shortening of the expected length of the hiking cycle (with typically the peak of the Euribor strip moving from greens to whites).

What does" moving from greens to whites" refer to / mean?

Thanks for your help

In short-term interest rate futures markets colors are used to refer to contract maturities a number of years into the future. I don't recall which color represents which year, but for example greens could be the contracts in the first year and whites the ones in the second year.

Thanks ever so much, John!

In the world of STIRs, the strip is as follows:
1st - 4th are Whites
5th - 8th are Reds
9th - 12th are Greens
13th - 16th are Blues
17th - 20th are Golds
Followed by Purples, Oranges, Pinks, Silvers and Coppers (not that anyone cares).

They're just saying in which area of the strip the peak occurs.

well some people call the EurUsd fx pair the "Freddie"
Wonder of any others out there know the rest.

Cable - GBPUSD
Loonie -CAD
Handle - the bit of the price that normally gets dropped. People say something is trading at 70, when its actual price is, say, 99.70. In this case, 99 is the "handle"
Car - not 100% sure, but isn't that like another name for a lot of SPY or smth like that

a car is a futures contract. its from lumber i think when each future was for a train car's (like a carriage) of wood.

Interesting, I knew what it meant but didn't know the etymology. Cheers bud.

I guess loonie comes from the coin with the loon bird on the back?

Normally I would charge you a "monkey" for this information but it's tripple discount day. I will not charge a "ton" nor a "pony", how about a "pearl diver" ?
