Starting out questions from a Newbie
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am looking to start out as a trader, ending my working life as a computer programmer, and have just opened a trading account with Inteactive Brokers. It seems abit difficult to navigate the IB screens and wondered (in a bid to shorten the learning curve), if anyone is able to provide a one on one (face to face) tutorial (which i will happily pay for of course).

My second question is Sharescope software, it seems very good specially the charts e.t.c Would it be a good idea to use IB as a Broker as well as suscribe to Sharecope, ....any thoughts.

Lastly, this is such a usefull trading site, commendation's to all that take part in answering questions such as this one, however as a suggestion, is it possible to arrange short courses in the UK (London), i think that will be more than a good thing

Hi Sehik

how long have you been learning about trading for?

I think it is a good idea to learn as much as possible about trading and how you wish to trade before you commence trading, or pack in the day job - in order to gain a valuable head start, enabling a trader to hit the ground running.

Cheers

jtrader,

i have been learning about trading for about 9 months now, mostly thru self study and books, got interested in trading by watching traders (investment banks at work), whilst developing trading/risk management software for them, i am interested in 'Swing Trading', just becos i reckon it's more forgiving than day trading.

I think it's good advice not to pack in the day job just yet, but as i am in b/w contracts at the moment, there's nothing preventing me from steaming ahead, except i get another contract in the interim

any advice is good for me at this stage as theoretical knowledge, is far removed from the pratical application.

"Senior member" just refers to the number of posts that have been made, I'm not sure where the various divisons lie. I think "legendary" is the most. Number of posts however is no indicator of the quality !
