How to read Indicators properly?

I've been trying to study some of the commonly used indicators (or at least the ones used by Interactive Brokers) over the web, but much of the explanation ends up being all Greek to me. I just want a concise explanation of a certain indicator: how to read it; where to go into a position; and where to get out of the position.

An example is the Stochastics. I figured that if the Stochastics cross either above the 80 line or below the 20 line, that's the signal for me to go in/go out of a position, respectively. Below is a pic of me trading today's Crude Oil Futures using the Stochastics on a 1-min Chart to show what I mean (sorry if it's a bit lousy):

I've set the Stochastics to 14, 3, and 5, and using MetaTrader 4, in case you are wondering. Feel free to correct me on how to read Stochastics properly.

The ones I wanted to get a clear and concise understanding are the following:

- Bollinger Bands
- Commodity Channel Index
- Relative Strength Index
- Parabolic SAR
- Momentum
- Money Flow Index
- On Balance Volume
- Accumulation/Distribution
- Average True Range
- Envelope
