Trading the ES - Tick or Minute Chart Preferred?

I'm *learning* how to trade the ES at the moment.
Came from Retail FX.
Back in FX, retail brokers only feed us with minute charts. So this is the first time I have any contact with tick charts.

Anyone wants to give newbies some opinions to chew on?

-For intraday ES trading, what intervals of tick charts do u prefer and why?

-Does tick charts offer considerable advantage over minute (1min, 5 min etc) charts?

Thanks in advance! :D

Remiraz,

I have been testing my own strategy for the last few weeks on tick/1/5/15&30min charts and I must say I find tick to noisy and very unpredictable. the way I like to trade the FX is to find trends. e.g.. depending on the indicators you are using if any I find a 15min chart will give you an idea of what is happening during that period but also some people will say with a 15min chart you can miss the action, I tend to disagree with this, if it is a true trend it will last for longer then 15min, if not then I don't want in on it. NOTE: this does not refers to FA's as they create big gaps in the market (totally different strategy to use for FA trading) I am referring to general daily movement.

The best advice I can offer is to play with chart settings and do some demo trades and see what works best for you.

What about the 90 tick charts, 233 tick charts, 100 tick charts?
Any intervals other than the 1 tick chart?

My main charts I use at the moment when trading during the day (when I am not at work) is a mix of 1/5 & 15min charts. I do not use ticks. I have tried them but like I said before it’s to noisy for me and it is hard to pick up on what is going on.

I try to base most of my decisions on a 15min chart as I think this is more reliable then ticks. I use the other charts to monitor as to what direction it is moving and make adjustments if needed.

What FX Company are you using? Have you played about with chats, if so what ones? What indicators are you using? (If any) also have trype of trading are you doing day, EOD etc?

Thanks man.
After some experimenting I find tick to be noisy too. Sticking to my 1,3 and 5 min charts for ES.
I not doing Spot FX anymore.
Learning to trade ES currently and might do a bit of Euro FX Futures.

Using Interactive Brokers.
