They could try and understand that QE is flooding the markets with £s from the top. Nothing much reaches down to the man on the street.
In my opinion if the Govt wants to stimulate a sluggish British economy then :-
1. introduce a monthly QE but at the bottom and on a diminishing value, say 10% a month.
2. Reduce the tax on fuel to 0%. The present ridiculously high figure makes the UK uncompetitive.
3. Put illegal drugs on the same basis as alchohol.
4.Tell the EU and it's Court of Human Rights to go jump into the Channel. Cancel all the red tape they are strangling business with etc.

And that's just for starters

They should join the yanks for a war on Iran in 2013 once the US election is done and dusted.

The best thing they could do is enter a mass suicide pact,

It's not a panacea, but it would be a good start.

I watched a little of an interview with Mad-and-bad on Bloomberg. The poor guy is completely out of touch with reality. Thinks Israel/USA won't ever attack Iran's nuclear bits ! Daft as a brush by civilized standards.

the Goverment wants to stop sticking its nose in the private sector and also sort out the gross inefficiencies in anything it does

I worked in the public sector for 3 years as an accountant........unbelievable the inefficiency and wastage I saw. .......couldnt wait to scoot back to the private sector and good old capitalism

Resignation would be a step in the right direction.

...to be replaced by????????????

Some long term strategy that any "short term" government can't tinker with except round the edges would be a help. But who looks further than their nose nowadays?

...to be replaced by????????????

A coin toss, random selection of policy.

Far cheaper, more efficient, and probably even more effective.

Alternatively, turn the whole thing into an X factor style show and let the plebs vote using premium rate lines. That would be rather lulzy

If you want a serious solution then Politicians should be selected on the same basis as jury service. If you get called up, you should be adequately compensated, given a large bonus based on performance, then tossed back into the real world at the end of say 5 years.

You could even set some sensible criteria for eligibility. For example age limits, sex, experience etc. that should sort it out

If the UK is prepared to pay me enough, I'd sort it out for them !

That's a major problem imho.
We have just had over spending socialism.

Both imho are very poor quality but it's a hairsbreadth between them as to which is the worst.

Any Govt that increases taxes on pensioners had better watch out ! The dummies.

Bring in quality and encourage it before it's too late.

Simplify the tax system would be my priority.

1. Eliminate all taxation except VAT.
2. More you spend more you pay tax.

That's it.

We need to tax consumption not production!

Cut all social services and benefits. That's what family and grand parents are for.

Stuff care in the community. Not cost effective or viable solution.

Back to basics. Flesh and blood, pride and honour in the name. Strength, integrity and duty in the character.

On your bike all parasites including politicians.

Congratulations, the job's yours.

What about people who don't have families to look after them?

No mummy or daddy? That's not conceivable!

No children or grand children?

No brothers or sisters?

No uncles or aunts?

This is the whole point. Ownership and responsibility.

So many people sooooo badly lost.

Always someone elses problem. If it's not government, it's the teachers and schools or the brutal police or the social services or the NHS and doctors.

Everybody is doing a **** job but my ****ing parents and me?

Sod the lot of em.

'I' - am here to exist.

It's something of a paradox isn't it. The better the benefits, the less the pressure on people to fend for themselves and the more costly (and unaffordable) it all becomes.

Risk Reward factor.

Give higher points for local housing to stable families. See how single parents drop off.

Humans respond to rewards better than punishment. Human psychie...

How about the single consumption tax idea? Any takers? (y)

Destroying consumption will be the end of the economy as you know it. No consumption means no manufacturing, means no jobs, means no money, means negative consumption when people start growing potatoes in their gardens, and rearing a cow in the shed for the fertiliser, and milk. The cow can also act as a wireless lawnmower.
