Hi All,

Looking to do some more research and would be grateful for any feedback on this. :cheesy:

For all those who swing trade UK/US stocks, which indicators do you find most useful??

I have read a lot of threads on here, and there seems to be a vast number of different indicators mentioned & used. However, as a starting point for myself, can anyone recommend any specific indicators that they find reliable?

I appreciate that using specific indicators is a personal thing depending on your type of trading but if anyone can advise on which ones I should be researching first, I would appreciate it.

Many Thanks in advance,

Chorlton

It seems like indicators are out of fashion at the moment. I don't use them for intra-day trading but I do think they can be useful for longer term trading. Have you looked at this thread? http://www.trade2win.com/boards/showthread.php?t=12501

The settings for the indicators are mentioned in the thread but I don't think they are necessarily the best. A bit of experimentation might improve on those mentioned. I use excel to make my own indicators, so can't help with any specifics but I do think they work best when used to help detect trends, rather than trying to spot overbought/oversold areas for reversals.

I've got a stochastic oscillator to show me possible set ups in all time frames but only to alert me of what may be coming... Its all price after that.

Chorlton,

I would look at RSI, MACD, Stochastic, Moving Average, and Bollinger Bands.
I use these for currencies and indices which I know you have not asked about but no harm to have a look. Also I would not use the standard settings.

ENTRY

Wilder's NET directional movement (DMI) positive. In other words, a rising DI + crossing above the falling DI-

Filtering out false breaks by 1. Price above both 18 day and 50 day moving averages, and 2. Either a rising ADX............... or ADX < 20

EXIT

Sell HALF of the position once ADX peaks (and find another opportunity)

Sell remaining half once Wilder parabolic (stop & reversal) flips down.

Some Indicators work some of the time and some of the time they don't ;)

Do you use this indicator on daily or on weekly charts? Thanks.
