"Daytrading UK equities by direct access" means you intend to buy and sell uk shares on the same day.
If this is really your intention then you will have to pay stamp duty, which will make it almost impossible to become profitable.
If you want to daytrade shares look to the us or almost anywhere except uk! If you need to trade uk shares look for longer timeframes, or go through cfd providers or spreadbetters to avoid the stamp duty

New question, If you had a capital base of a few hundred thousand pounds, what medium would you use to trade things like forex or inidces ?
would you use spread betters or a futures broker ? or somthing else...
or if it was a million would you leave the country to aviod tax to trade actively.
