Hi

I am looking for info/ resources that detail the following

(A) the most liquid commodities to trade
(B) the exchanges that trade the highest volumes of (A)

Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

Peace

You need to check out volume and open interest. Generally speaking this info is available on the futures exchanges's websites. You could find a list of futures exchanges on wikipedia, I expect.

I posted a question like this about six months ago, and spent a while searching the net for something that brought this info together in one place, but I didn't find anything. Let us know if you do.

Hi Adam

In terms of US markets, you may find the Commitment of Traders Report (COT report) helpful.

The report can be found via: Commitments of Traders

It would be good to know what you think about it.

By the way, what instruments did you decide to trade?

Peace

Go to barchart.com......you'll find charts/volume, quotes, etc. CME, CBOT, NY MERC, ICE ....Exchanges

A) Crude
B) Nymex on CME

you can trade brent if you preferred, little point though if you are speculating, IPE is the other oil exchange. CME to Physical contracts ticker CL and mini cach settled contracts QM.

I didn't think to look at Commitment of Traders although I get the data on my system. It needs some sort of processing, currently it's not easy to get an overview, which incidentally I'm sure I saw out there somewhere.

The futures I'm looking at trading are AD, BF, BP, C, CB, CC, CD, CT, DF, EC, ED, EJ, GB, GC, HG, HS, JY, KC, NX, SB, SF, SP, US & X. Based on a balance between deep liquidity and lack of correlation and getting 25 - although of course that's only 24 and I might have to find a different short term interest rate because ED is so untradeable with the systems I'm developing, it just doesn't have the volatility for the margin, slippage and commission for most of the time, and then some of the time it has too much. Challenging.
