If by 'stock dividend' you mean dividend reinvestment then my advice is take the cash.

From my understanding it may actually be better to take the stock as dividend as you will end up paying tax on your cash dividend, although you may need to may capital gains tax on your stock when you sell it if it is over £10k or something (you need to find out what the threshold is for capital gains tax).

cash dividend because accounting for share based payments is murder

more seriously: it depends on these factors;

1) opportunity cost of taking stocks
1)i) interest rate
1)ii) higher return expected in another stock?
2) will stock price go up, if you thought so why was your position size not right in the first place

i usually take cash, mind you i only own like 100 shares so dividend is about $7
