Has anyone got this problem today with CMC? CMC don't seem to have any sensible answers so far.

My MarketMaker software wont connect to the server.

Here is the notice that comes up.
"Failed to contact the update server

Please check you are connected to the internet and have some spare space on your hard drive.
If you are running a firewall then please ensure that this application is allowed to access the internet.
Once you are happy that they are correct, click the retry button.

If the problem persists please contact help desk."

Can anybody give me some help or ideas?

MM is fine for me. responds ok.
Have you reset any settings on Anti-Virus or Firewalls, or added new software ?

EDIT: worst case - try to re-download and re-install MM afresh.

Thanks for that. I have reinstalled MM and under a new directory name. There was a Windows Update last night. I have the checked the Windows XP's Firewall settings and MM is checked as an exception. I haven't made any changes to my Anti-Virus. Any other suggestions?

Always had problems with it

getting the MM software running has always been difficult i have found, recently after moving & re-setting up trade PC I spent several weeks going backwards & forwards with them ( I am pretty ok with computers also) I finally gave up.....If gave up because after spending some time sending lots of info from my PC & being promised they would get back to me......they never did. when i finally got in touch it was as if they did not know what i was talking about.....a**eholes.
I am not normally negative , but after having quite a few run ins with them....including things like them cancelling good trades saying their software had made a mistake!!!!!! .........after this I had had enough

hope you have more luck.....I have moved account to Oanda now..........worlds apart

best o luck

Jay

p.s. I had this very same problem you are having many times.....& so did a friend of mine, but never figured out what it was

I've had the same problems too, and the only thing I can suggest is to make sure you have the most up to date Java release installed.

Finlayson and Quercus thanks for your help guys. After I've heard your stories now I'm feeling all sad.

I'm open to any further suggestions.

try tuning off your firewall and trying to connect also have you cleared you temp internet files

Problem solved guys. It appears its simply a case of modifying the Hosts file - located at
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

If you can't log onto MM, call up CMC and get to speak to a level 2 technical support chap. He'll give you the additional ip numbers to add to your Hosts file so you can log into MM software. "Peace of cake, Gordon". :p
